DS1 - 2 week update > Age of your EC-child... 2 weeks
> We started at... Birth
> Generally speaking we are doing... Great! We enjoy the communication about his pottying needs.
> How do you know your baby has to go? Baby's signals? Timing? Intuition? Is there a difference for poos and pees? He grunts and is not interested in nursing. Upon waking is another common time, but he doesn’t always need to go at wakeup times either.
> Which positions/receptacles do you use? For daytime we us the classic hold (sometimes cradle-like classic) over the bathroom sink. For night I hold him in a reclined position over a clear potty with potty warmer. I leave the front of the prefold tucked into the prefold belt to catch overshots around the splashguard. Positioning and holding has gotten
> Do you use diapers or training pants? On what occasions, what kind of diapers? We use prefolds – infant and preemie – with prefold belt. He is typically also wrapped with a wool receiving blanket.
> How are you doing away from home? Well, we went out once . . . and he peed and pood a few times, and we caught it all in our cloth backup.
> What are you doing at night? We offer the potty on wakings if nursing does not settle him or if I am fairly certain he is waking to pee.
> Who takes baby to the potty? Mainly me, DH and grandma too
> Accidents - how many do you have? What times are especially accident-prone? I don’t really consider anything an accident right now . . . well, maybe there were a couple of poo misses that didn’t make it all in the cloth. But those don’t begin to compare to our worst blow-out ever when we were a full-time disposable diapering family that had never considered or heard of elimination communication.
> Other new insights: Newborn EC is so cool!!
> What do you like most about ec’ing at the moment? It feels really great to respond to his elimination needs in a way that he enjoys.
> Do you ever wish you'd have never heard about it? No.
> Tips for this stage . . . Keeping laundry reasonable is our biggest challenge it seems. Having lots of prefolds available really helps.
